Plant Oil Cookers
It is a recent undertaking of some big players in the high-tech industry to develop stoves which can create efficient heat
energy based on the most common and cheapest locally available plant oils. The initial firing can be spurred by a tiny
amount of paraffin.
The protos stove study has not yet reached a mass marketing stage and is hence not yet widely available, moreover the
initial cost of the device plus the cost for the oil or effort to produce the oil on a household basis will most probably
exceed the means and capacity available in an average Malawian village household. However, it might become an
appropriate alternative to charcoal in the urban and semi-urban areas.
The idea deserves close observation and might be developed to a stage that it can become useful here as well.
