Cooperation Network for Renewable Energy in Malawi (CONREMA)

The Cooperation Network for Renewable Energy in Malawi (CONREMA) is a platform for information sharing, stakeholder exchange and best practice learning in Malawi’s renewable energy sector. This network fills a well-documented gap in overview, coordination and monitoring and evaluation of renewable energy and energy efficiency projects in the country.

The official CONREMA website was launched in January 2016, with the event being attended by stakeholders from the private sector, NGOs, research, media, and the Government of Malawi.

The website acts as an open online database of renewable energy interventions on community level and all relevant Renewable Energy programs; as such, it aims to be a platform where success and failures in approaches and technologies can be better evaluated, sustainability challenges detected and cost-benefit-analysis facilitated.

Additionally, it serves as a database giving network members an opportunity to access capacity and experience by local implementers, graduates, researchers, technology providers visible to others and facilitates partnership and best practice exchange.

In order to facilitate its use, CONREMA also has its own facebook page for a quick look at sector relevant developments including policy, research and funding opportunities and business challenges, and connects stakeholders to other sub-sector networks.

The creation of CONREMA is a first in the South-Eastern African region.
